Projects, Projects, Projects

Well I cant believe that the end of the year is around the corner, as all the classes finish up returning to learn about local artists and art from the United states, I am behind on posting a few projects. Below are 2 projects from Japan.

Preschool Artists learned about artists Salvador Dali and Surrealism!! We discussed his painting shown below and added our very own spin to it. I encouraged artists to use their imagination to put things that would not be found in our realistic world together, similar to what Dali did.

4th grade artists learned about Japanese Notan Designs students discuss two parts working together to achieve balance and harmony. We discussed positive and negative space as well as complimentary colors and students goal was to achieve balance between what was cut out and what remained.

5th grade: students learned about contemporary artist Kimmy Cantrell, and his expressive faces. Cantrell used clay to make his faces, but 5th grade students used cardboard to create a bas, or low relief along with oil pastels to create these fun faces.

Kindergarten Artists: Learned about tints and shades (tint= color plus white, shade= color plus black) and created these fun ice cream cones!
