Golden Crayon Winner Week 4: KB!!

Congrats KB!!!

 Meanwhile, 6th-7th have been using clay learning about the history of coil pots. Students explored what a coil pot is as well as ways to properly secure a coil pot. Students will be painting them this week!

Students in 8th grade explored coil pots as well but tied in the history of Polynesian Tikis :) These will be painted too!

CONGRATS TO 1B for being super fabulous and winning the Golden Crayon!!!

Meanwhile, Projects from Australia are all done and most classes are in Asia or Europe!

 Coming soon, Chinese Vases from the upper grades,  Russian Nesting dolls from grade 1, and Dutch Tulip fields from grade 4!

4B was the wonderful winners of the Golden Crayon!!! Congrats!!

Draw the Shore Art Show!!

Students of Holy Cross filled the Middletown Arts Center, Sunday April 21st to view their beautiful artwork that was on display! Proceed of the sold artwork go to the foundation Save the Jersey Shore :) It was a very fun filled day spent with the Doodle Dude, and many musical guests!!

THE GOLDEN CRAYON!!

Congrats 2A, you left the room sparkling!

New to the art room is a 4 foot tall golden sparkly crayon...this is a traveling crayon and it finds itself in the classroom of the students with the BEST ART BEHAVIOR:)

Students have been cracking down on the chit chat to win this prestigious honor and I am proud to present the first winner.....2A Mrs. Huthwaite's Class!!

We are in the home stretch of our travels around the world!!!

Asia and Europe left!! 

In Asia students focused on different countries and explore their native art.

Kindergarten stopped in India to discuss the role of the elephant as well as the bright colors and designs of Indian motifs! Below are pictures of our mixed media elephants!

3rd grade visited Russia where we explored the beautiful architecture of Saint Basil's Cathedral!  Inspired by the beautiful colors and patterns students discussed the profession of the Architect and designed their very own Russian buildings! We also discussed overlapping and perspective :)

6th-8th grade focused on the beautiful Blue and White porcelain pottery that came out of China during the Ming Dynasty. Students created a blue/white scratchboard to design their pottery!

Australia!! :)

AUSTRALIA

We travel to Australia and focus on the art of the Aboriginals! The aboriginals are known for creating two styles of painting. The first is the Xray style of painting/drawing. In this techniques Aboriginal artists use line and shape to create the view of the animal as though taken with an Xray machine! Students discuss the bones and the organs that would be visible and created animals that showed the ribs, and bones using lines and shapes! Below are examples of Aboriginal Xray Style!

Students also learned about the dot painting style. This technique is what the Aboriginals are most known for! Students had fun using qtips and circle stamps to create lots and lots of dots!

Students in PreK created Sea Turtles, 1st grade made boomerangs, 2nd created Xray Snakes, and 3rd created X ray drawings of fish, turtles and geckos. 6th grade had a lot of fun painting their Australian animal doing a fun activity then creating the dot technique in the background Below are examples of the student work!

1st graders learned about the creation of the boomerang in Australia and focused on a symmetrical design to create these bright, dot filled designs!!

2nd graders combined both the Xray style of art and the dot style in these colorful Aboriginal snakes! Students explored color mixing as well, only receiving the primary colors to paint!
