Art Show :)

Hello all, I locked myself out of the blog and now I am back :)

Below are some shots from the Art Show that was March 21st in the halls of Holy Cross. The show is currently still up, so if you have yet to see it in person, check it out :)

 I realized I did not show work from the other half of the artwork, I will update this post tomorrow!

Happy Belated Chinese New Year!

Hello Hello!!

Delayed post!! 

Students in PreK and Kindergarten learned about the Chinese New Year and created their very own Chinese Dragons before we embarked on the school wide mosiacs! Sorry for the delay!

Welcome Year of the Snake!!

PreK: Used their shoes to create the dragons head and worked on hopping and zig zag lines to create the texture of the scales and spikes!

Kindergarten: Had fun using yarn to create the snake inspired body and focused on line to create the spikes and scales of the dragon! Students had a lot of fun using oil pastels to fill their dragons with a lot of color!

Art Appreciation: Mosaics!

Hello all! 

This past week, the Art room was super busy teaching students k-8 about the art of Mosaics. Thanks to our WONDERFUL moms, dads and grandmas who donated their time and assistance!! By Friday we became a very well oiled machine! Oh how we were prepped for the next class before the students from the class even left! It was definitely a blast and you could tell from the comments and excitement from students in every grade!

Winter Birch Trees and African Clay Masks

Hello All!!!

The students are working hard in the art room! We are now learning about the art and culture of Africa! 

4th graders: Explored watercolors to create a beautiful sky and then had fun using cardboard and black paint to create these beautiful winter landscapes! We discussed shading techniques and students shading the trees to appear on the snow.

8th grade: Students explore techniques in clay to create these african masks.

African masks should be seen as part of a ceremonial costume. They are used in religious and social events to represent the spirits of ancestors or to control the good and evil forces in the community. They come to life, possessed by their spirit in the performance of the dance, and are enhanced by both the music and atmosphere of the occasion. Some combine human and animal features to unite man with his natural environment. This bond with nature is of great importance to the African and through the ages masks have always been used to express this relationship
